The Gift that Keeps on Giving

Do you remember the controversial Peloton bike Christmas advert in 2019,  ‘The Gift that Gives Back’, which features a husband giving his wife a Peloton Bike for Christmas and many criticised it for being ‘sexist’? Link above.

Well, we have come to that time of year, especially if you are like me, whereby you are trying to choose that last minute, meaningful gift for our loved ones, hoping to not get the potential Ryan Reynold’s style “Peloton backlash” when they open it.

We are in the day and age now that when we really want something; we can go online and simply get it for ourselves. So the rise of the “experience” presents, like the red letter days, massage treatments, trips to the theatre, grooming sessions, PT subscriptions, Peloton bikes for home workouts; are really the hot tickets it seems, that will get you in their good books (at least until their birthday). I know, I am giving you some great ideas, right?

Well, with this coronavirus still lurking around, many of these experiences are unavailable too.

My point- people love receiving new and indulgent experiences, more so than material possessions it appears. Agree?

We ALL like the feeling of being indulged, treated to doing something different, encounter some sort of new adventure or trip, to make us feel special. So when we have the ability to give this to someone else to say, “thank you for putting up with m…

We ALL like the feeling of being indulged, treated to doing something different, encounter some sort of new adventure or trip, to make us feel special. So when we have the ability to give this to someone else to say, “thank you for putting up with me”, we are giving them the gift of time for themselves, for zen, peace, euphoria & relaxation too.

We can't put a price on it, can we? It's invaluable.

However, if we think about it; a Peloton bike starts at £1750. A spa day is £150-£450 (depending on where you go), a meal for two ranges from £50-£500. A PT package £500-£1000, joint trip to the theatre £100- £200. Get my drift? It all sounds like a lot of money considering the experience ranges for an hour to five hours. However, we STILL do it, because we value it so highly. It’s a time when we can just BE. Give our bodies a rest (or work out) and simply enjoy the experience. Sometimes we even look good afterwards, and we can see the physical benefits in the long run too.

The question I have is why do we focus and invest in our outward physical selves; our skin, our body, our hair, when WITHIN us, we feel shattered, our brains are fuzzy and we feel lost or stuck INSIDE?

What about our minds? When do we give that a real workout, stretch or a sense of release? Wouldn’t it be nice if your were able to give your your loved ones an experience that could expand their minds, foster clearer thinking, improve their self-confidence and could potentially be life-changing for them?

What if your partner felt calmer, lighter and motivated to finally do what they said they’ve been longing to do; bringing about a happier, satisfied , content and relaxed version of themselves? This better frame of mind also resulting in improved communication with you, boosting and enhancing a harmonious relationship between the both of you as well. What a bonus!

Don’t get me wrong, if my husband got me a Peloton bike, I wouldn’t say no; but it would take up a lot of space at home and I suspect in six months' time, it may turn into an expensive clothes rail. However, if I had a coach to help clear my mind, declutter my thoughts, improve my relationships, better my own work-life balance and I can see the change in my own life – this is what I call invaluable!

It is one of the few times when you are just focusing on yourself.

I know how much you would love to give a gift that keeps on giving to someone special in your life; so let’s talk on zoom, grab yourself a coffee and a favourite sweet treat, and let’s see what magic we can unfold.
